Training Snippets: Where to Find the Dojo

Here I am again!  This time I'm continuing the series of (hopefully) short articles that provide some information about the basics of training at Sanchin Aikido UK classes.  During the series I'll share what to expect, advice, simple explanations, and (where relevant) I'll also call out some more generic tips that could potentially apply when visiting other aikido schools and classes.

Where to Find the Dojo

It's probably one of the first things you'll think about when considering joining in the fun - where is the training at?  Well today I hope to answer that question, but please if you need further guidance or help just get in touch and I'll do my best to give you navigational support!

"Big red arrow marks the spot!"

It's very important to know that once you arrive at the building the entrance to the dojo (training hall) is at the rear of the building.  The dojo entrance is a set of blue doors accessible from the carpark area on the side of the building furthest away from the Morrisons supermarket (which is just across the street).

This is what the entrance looks like.

If you are standing at the front of the Sir James Clark Building, with the Morrisons Supermarket behind you, then to reach the training hall you need to walk around the side of the Sir James Clark Building until you enter the rear car park.  From there the door marked "Floor4orce Dance Studio" should be easily visible as marked on the aerial view above.

You can also watch this short video which walks through everything I've just described as an additional visual aid:

Typically the doors will be opened about 30 minutes before the scheduled start time for classes, so if you are earlier than that you may need to wait for a little bit.

Parking

Parking directly outside the Sir James Clark Building and in the building car park is permit-controlled, but on-street parking is available nearby, and it is possible to easily walk directly from the Morrison's supermarket car park (which is directly adjacent to the building).

Morrison's offers up to 3 hours free parking for customers of the supermarket, which should be ample time to attend a 1 hour class and pick up a few groceries!

Public Transport

Paisley is well-served by public transport, and it is fairly easy to reach the training hall from local train and bus links.

There are two bus stops (one on each side of the road) directly opposite the nearby Morrison's Supermarket, which are served by regular buses, and (at the time of writing) the number 9 simpliCITY bus route will bring you from Glasgow city centre to Paisley High Street (which is about 10 minutes walk away).

There are also easy options when it comes to journey by train, as the dojo is roughly in the middle between 3 local stations:

Around 20 minutes walk from Paisley Canal Station

Approximately 13 minutes walk from Paisley Gilmore Street Station

About 14 minutes walk from Hawkhead Station

Finally, Paisley is a short drive (or taxi) from Glasgow Airport, if you happen to be travelling internationally.

It takes roughly 8 minutes to drive from Glasgow Airport

Please always remember to check our class schedule page for the latest updates on classes (and any cancellations) to avoid disappointment.

Hope to see you there and thanks for taking the time to read this post.
